Las Vegas Teacher Arrested Over Sex With Student

An eighth grade math teacher has been arrested and charged with a number of sex crimes after allegedly having a relationship with a student.

Nicole Wilfinger, 37, a teacher at Molasky Middle School, is accused of three counts of statutory sex seduction by a person over 21, sex with a student aged 14-15, two counts of sex with a student aged 16-17, and three counts of lewdness with a child over 14, according to KTNV.

Wilfinger reportedly coached the soccer team the victim played on, and was a friend of his family. She babysat his 7-year-old sister.

When officers initially questioned the teenager, he said he considered Wilfinger a family friend.

But investigators later found 317 phone calls and 556 text messages on Wilfinger’s phone between the two, in addition to 325 pictures of the victim, according to the Daily Mail. The police asked the boy again if he had anything additional to say, and he admitted to having had sex with Wilfinger.

On Wilfinger’s phone, officers also found a journal containing the entries “first kiss,” the “first time we had sex,” and “first time he was a cowboy for me,” according to KTNV.

The relationship began when the boy, who is now in high school, was 14-years-old. It was uncovered after a school administrator became suspicious.

Parents responded with their feelings to the announcement of the arrest.

“Anger; you know mad," Trent Tippetts, the parent of a child at Molasky Middle School told KLAS. "It’s upsetting."

He added that it's "just disgusting."

Clark County School District released a statement in a bid to reassure parents after Wilfinger’s arrest.

“We take this situation very seriously,” it read. “However it’s important to note that cases like this one are not reflective of our 40,000 employees.”

This was the fourth time this year a teacher had been arrested for having sex with a student, KLAS reports.

“I tell my daughter all the time, speak up, get somebody involved if you feel uncomfortable, or somebody puts their hand on you,” parent Rauel Plascencia told KLAS.
