Teacher's Aide Offers Teenager $900 Not To Reveal Their Sexual Relationship

A Connecticut teacher’s assistant has been accused of having a sexual relationship with a teenager whom she has known since he was in preschool.

Kyle Damato-Kushel, 45, is accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with a teenager that has spanned two years. She was arrested on Dec. 8, following an investigation conducted by Stratford Police that began in October, reports Stratford Patch.

The former teacher’s aide, who was fired by Wooster Middle School after word of the incident spread, was the boy’s preschool teacher and had reportedly been having sex with the child since the summer of 2013, when he was in seventh grade. Dr. Janet Robinson, Stratford superintendent, released a statement following the arrest:

"The moment that it was brought to our attention that Damato-Kushel was being investigated for inappropriate behavior with a student, (even though the events took place off of school grounds), she was immediately placed on administrative leave.  Once we received the DCF report on November 9th, 2015 that substantiated the allegations, she was terminated.

"We will not tolerate this type of behavior, regardless of where it happens.  Our responsibility is to protect and educate our students.  I am thankful to the Stratford Police Department for bringing this disturbing case to a swift resolution.”

The former teacher's aide has been charged with second-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault in which the victim is a student, illegal sexual contact with a minor, tampering with a witness and interfering with an officer, reports WTIC.

Damato-Kushel, whose DNA was found in the boy’s underwear, reportedly offered the teenager $900 to not say anything about the relationship. At one point, she had allegedly become pregnant, but ultimately miscarried.

The relationship was discovered by Damato-Kushel’s husband, who called police upon hearing voices in their home, thinking it was a burglar, reports Connecticut Post.

Police reported that the teenager said their first sexual experience was in the husband's “man cave” at the house. The two have reportedly had sex in several places both inside and outside Damato-Kushel’s home.

The former teacher's aide didn’t enter a plea and was allowed to remain free on $50,000 bail.
