A 44-year-old Brooklyn teacher at a prestigious high school has been accused of having sexual intercourse with several students and taking them to nude beaches and sex clubs, where he allegedly forced one young girl to watch him perform sex acts with another adult male.
Sean Shaynak, a math and physics teacher at Brooklyn Technical High School, first caught the attention of authorities in August, when he was accused of sending a nude photo of himself to a 16-year-old student, reports the New York Daily News. Since then, police say other students have started to speak up about the educator – and the stories they are reporting are shocking.
The divorced father, who has a 9-year-old daughter, reportedly gave one student straight A’s because she had sex with him, even though she turned in tests that were completely blank, said prosecutor Joseph Mancino. Shaynak allegedly took a 15-year-old girl to a nude beach and gave her vodka, tequila and whisky. She reportedly passed out at his home. That same victim allegedly received 10,000 text messages in which she says the teacher asked her to have a threesome with him and another female student.
And the accusations don’t end there.
Shaynak, who has worked at Brooklyn Tech since 2009, reportedly engaged in a four-month-long sexual relationship with another teen and took her to a gay sex club, where she reportedly watched him perform sex acts with a man. He has also been accused of forcing himself on an 18-year-old girl who resisted his advances and sending photos of his genitals to four students, two of whom were minors.
When police searched his house, they say they found numerous pornography videos on his computer, including clips of humans having sex with goats, horses and dogs.
The suspect reportedly engaged in these criminal acts with students between the fall of 2012 and this summer. He faces a 36-count indictment on charges of kidnapping, criminal sex act, obscenity, forcible touching and unlawful imprisonment against six girls whose ages range from 13 to 19.
If convicted of the top charge, Shaynak could spend 25 years in prison.
The teacher has pleaded not guilty and is being held on $1 million bail.
Department of Education spokeswoman Devora Kaye says Shaynak will not be allowed to be in contact with students. He is, however, still reportedly earning a yearly salary of $52,744.
