Suitcase Of Body Parts Found In SoMA District

San Francisco police discovered a suitcase full of body parts on Wednesday, followed by a second discovery nearby in the South of Market area.

Police originally responded to a call of a suspicious package around 4:15 p.m. and found a roller-type suitcase among garbage and debris. It contained dismembered body parts of a human, but the gender and race of the person was not clear.

The street was shut down as officers began to search the area. Although more body parts were discovered, specifics were not released regarding what they were or where they were found.

Homicide detectives were at the scene collecting surveillance footage from nearby businesses, which helped investigators put together a rough suspect description, according police spokesperson Grace Gatpandan.

“Investigators are still searching to determine if there are any other body parts in the area,” Gatpandan said. “This was an extremely gruesome scene.”

Gatpandan added that it’s unclear whether or not the body parts belong to one person.

Mission and 11th streets remained closed on Wednesday night as homicide detectives continued their search.

The street is a long-troubled area. It’s also just a block away from Twitter headquarters and part of an emerging technology neighborhood.
