A male was shot and killed by a police officer after he allegedly attacked a cop with a knife in Chicago.
Police reportedly responded to a call about a man who was threatening suicide in the West Woodlawn neighborhood, reports the Chicago Tribune. They found the man sitting on a porch, but when police approached him, they say he ran at them with a knife in his hand and stabbed one of the officers twice in the vest.
The 25-year-old man, Terrence Gilbert, reportedly walked away after the stabbing incident, and police say they attempted to make him stop by asking him to put down his weapon.
“He turned around and charged at the police officers again, and he was shot twice in the torso,” said Chicago police Deputy Chief Berscott Ruiz.
Gilbert was reportedly taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The officer who was stabbed was also transported to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries. He is in good condition, according to police.
The knife Gilbert used was retrieved at the scene, according to police.
