A classroom brawl on Oct. 24 at Lincoln High School in Philadelphia was captured on video (below) and posted online.
The 49-second video shows two students, one in red and one in black, scuffling with each other when the one in red suddenly starts swinging.
The red student’s first punch hits the teacher, who is trying to break up the fight, calmly imploring them to “let go, let go.” Then he takes another swing at the student he's fighting with.
At that point, a third student enters from the left and hits the student in red squarely in the face, knocking him to the ground, then stands over him, cursing him for punching the teacher. “You don’t f****** do that!” he yelled.
Then the teacher re-enters the scene, attempting to calm down the third student, who tells her, “He just f*****g hit you! That ain’t right!” The scene ends with the student in red getting to his feet and walking away, looking somewhat dazed.
After the video went viral, police charged the unidentified 16-year-old student in red with aggravated assault, reports KYW, the CBS affiliate in Philadelphia.
“I don’t think he was trying to swing,” said Lincoln senior Austin Augustine to KYW of the punch that hit the teacher. “I saw him throw one punch, but the kid was throwing a lot of punches.”
In a statement to the station, Dr. William Hite, superintendent of Philadelphia schools, said he had not seen the video, but that “what has been described to me is disturbing and not the type of incidents we want to see in our schools. We’re going to do everything we can to get to the bottom of it.”
