NBA star Stephen Curry might be joining Colin Kaepernick in his protest of the national anthem, given his recent comments on the controversy.

The Golden State Warriors player recently came out in support of Kaepernick’s decision not to stand for the national anthem, which has sparked intense controversy nationwide.

“I love that. I love that there’s freedom of speech and he can stand for what he believes in,” Curry told CNBC, The Huffington Post reported. “There’s going to be people that disagree with him, there’s going to be people that agree with him, which is what I think our country stands for, which hopefully will drive the conversation to bettering the equal rights and treatment of African-Americans and people of color.”

Curry added that he applauds Kaepernick for “taking a stand,” saying that he hopes “the conversation is about his message, and not, ‘Is he going to stand or is he going to sit for the national anthem?’”

Another sports star spoke out about the Kaepernick controversy, but took a surprisingly different stand. Shaquille O’Neal appeared on Fox News and was asked about his stance on the issue.

“I don’t know Colin, but to each his own. I don’t really have a say on it, but I would never do that,” he told the network, The Washington Post reported.

“My father was a military man, and he protected this country. [My uncles] are in law enforcement, they go out and work hard every day. Just, you know -- [there are] other ways to get your point across.”

“My question is: What happened last year? How come you didn’t decide to do this last year, or the year before that, or the year before that?” O’Neal added. “My thing is, ... you have to enter onto the scene one way. People like Muhammad Ali and Bill Russell, they were one way their whole career. You can’t show us something, and then go to another, just because of certain issues.”
