A father was reported to police after being caught disciplining his child with a belt by Reality TV star Jo Frost’s film crew.
During the recording of an episode of Frost’s new show "Jo Frost: Nanny On Tour" in Gwinnett County, Georgia, the film crew made a grim discovery about the subject family, said the Daily Mail.
According to TMZ, sources connected to production say that former Supernanny Frost was contacted by the Spivey family because the three children would only listen to their father, but not their mother.
Frost visited the family. Then, with the family’s approval, left surveillance cameras in their home. Footage from the surveillance cameras revealed a scene in which Chris Spivey sends his nine-year-old son Marcus to his room for using his dad’s phone charger. The father can be seen taking off his belt before going into the bedroom.
No footage of the beating was shown in the episode on Feb. 18, but the sounds of the belt smacking the crying boy can be heard through the door.
Frost reportedly called the Department of Children and Family Services as soon as she reviewed the footage and saw what the father was doing.
The Spiveys confirmed to TMZ that their home was investigated by the DCFS. Chris says that he has previously used corporal punishment, which is legal in Georgia, though he says that he was only hitting the bed in the video and that his son was crying not out of pain, but because “he was frightened.”
The DCFS found no wrongdoing in the Spivey household, the family told TMZ.
Jo Frost told sources that she is anti-corporal punishment and decided to air the footage to start a conversation.
