Sri Lankan Man Says he Hasn't Eaten in Five Years

A man from Sri Lanka is claiming that he has survived off of nothing but air for the past five years, being a Breatharian.

Kirby de Lanerolle said he has not eaten anything during those five years and has only breathed, absorbed light and felt wind and the "vibrations of God." But many experts disagree with his claims, as it is widely believed that you can only live without food for a maximum of two months.

Lanerolle said he is in good health and feels younger. He believes being a Breatharian could make him immortal.

"There are energy sources out there that are greater than the food calories you are putting in your body," Lanerolle said. "Calories come from photons and light and vibrations and wind. Anything can feed you if your energy centers are open."

He did admit to eating seven meals during the past ten months, but those meals were only 500 calories.

"The average human being eats three meals a day, 90 a month," he said. "Over ten months that's 900 meals. I've had seven meals in ten months, and I can't eat big amounts."

Lanerolle said he also feels extremely ill and tired when he eats real food.

"In this consciousness, when I do eat food, it makes me feel very tired," he said. "My alertness goes away when I eat now."

His goal is to teach others about the benefits of being Breatharian.

"I have been called to teach this better and fuller life," he said.

Doctors and scientists, however, warn of the dangers of abstaining from food for long periods of time.
