Acclaimed writer, actor and filmmaker Spike Lee endorse Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont for President.
The Sanders campaign began running ads in South Carolina featuring Lee calling on voters to support the Vermont senator.
"Waaaaake up!!" Lee says in the ad, according to ABC News. "Wake up, South Carolina!"
The ad began running on Feb. 23.
"This is your dude, Spike Lee," he continues. "And you know that I know that you know that the system is rigged! And for too long we’ve given our votes to corporate puppets. Sold the okie doke. Ninety-nine percent of Americans were hurt by the Great Recession of 2008, and many are still recovering."
Lee goes to say that he is "officially endorsing" Sanders.
"Bernie takes no money from corporations," Lee adds. "Nada. Which means he’s not on the take, and when Bernie gets into the White House, he will do the right thing!"
Lee's endorsement comes just after actor Will Ferrell switched his endorsement from Sanders to rival Hillary Clinton.
"[Ferrell] worked with President Clinton to get people to caucus in Nevada and is cohosting an event for her," A Clinton campaign spokeswoman told Variety, according to the Daily Caller. "He is supporting her."
