After President Obama endorsed restrictions on assault weapons, earlier this week, prices for handgun magazines soared on on EBay and semi-automatic rifles sold out at many Walmart stores.
Walmart said that it would continue to sell guns, including rifles like the one used at Newtown, Connecticut where 26 people were killed, reports Bloomberg News.
Bloomberg News searched five kinds of semi-automatic rifles on Walmart's website and found them to be out of stock at stores in Pennsylvania, Kansas and Alabama.
David Tovar, a spokesman for Walmart, said yesterday that the family-friendly store is committed to selling assault weapons: “We remain dedicated to the safe and responsible sale of firearms in areas of the country where they are sold."
Walmart has 10 rifles listed on its website, but removed a description and picture of the Bushmaster AR-15, which was used in Newtown.
On EBay, the current bid for four Glock handgun magazines, ammunition for one of the guns used at Newtown, is $118.37 compared to $45 on the day before the school shooting.
