A Florida high school teacher has been suspended after she was accused of sending nude Snapchat photos to a student.
Dionne Younce, a physical education teacher at Nease High School in St. Johns County, is currently suspended with pay while under investigation by the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.
Three students have reported receiving private messages from Younce, which eventually moved to text messaging. One unnamed student said that Younce began Snapchatting with him, which he said began casual but soon turned sexual.
The student said in a statement that he and his teacher “started sending nude photos to each other” until rumors began spreading about the two. Younce told the student not to say anything about their exchanges so that she didn’t get caught.
Another student said that Younce would call him at night to talk about sports and added, “To be completely honest, (she) used to sometimes be, I think, under the influence (when she called).”
Three students gave statements to school officials on Jan. 27. The day after, the school notified Younce that the school district “elected to dismiss (her) from employment.”
According to St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Chuck Mulligan, the investigation was turned over to the Special Victims Unit to determine if any crimes were committed in the case. Two possible charges against Younce for “lewd or lascivious acts upon a child” were listed.
Younce is currently suspended until the School Board votes on her employment at a meeting scheduled for Feb. 9.
