Boy Cuts Off Own Finger After Argument With Parents

A Chinese boy cut off his own finger after his parents yelled at him for spending too much time on his mobile phone.

The incident involved an 11-year-old boy, reportedly named Xiaopeng, who spent all day and night on his smartphone, even after his mother instructed that he put it down.

Xiaopeng refused to listen to his mother, prompting his father to confront him about it. When the argument escalated, the boy took a kitchen knife and cut off the top of his left index finger.

Xiaopeng was rushed to the hospital, where surgeons reattached his fingertip in a three-hour procedure, Yahoo reported. It is unclear if the procedure was successful, as children have finger blood vessels making it more difficult for fingers to be reattached.

"If the operation is a complete success, the impact of this rash incident on Xiaopeng's future use of his left hand should be minimal," surgeon Ren Zhourong said.

In an unrelated incident, also in China, a man dropped dead after playing games on the Internet for three days straight. The 30-year-old, from the southern Chinese town of Guangzhou, was rushed to the hospital after collapsing in his home.

"Police have ruled out the possibility of suicide," a Chinese newspaper said, CNET reported. Exhaustion was believed to be the cause of death.
