Kevin Capponi of Greene, Maine, accidentally struck and killed his 6-year-old son with his snowplow on Wednesday when he was cleaning up snow from the family’s driveway.
The boy was playing on his scooter, and Capponi didn’t see the youngster while he was backing up his truck.
Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said the accident took place at 6:45 a.m.
An ambulance rushed the boy to Central Maine Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, McCausland said in a statement. Greene is located in southwestern Maine, according to The Daily News.
“Please forgive me and my family ... I love him with all my heart ... it is now broken,” Capponi wrote on his Facebook page. The page has been filled with messages of support.
“My most heartfelt sympathies to you and your family Kevin. Always hold onto the memories and know that you all have a community of friends and relatives that are here to surround you,” Krista Knowlton Bean wrote.
“This was an accident ... it was not your fault. we always blame ourselves, but it was an accident,” Jeannine St. Pierre posted.
"I can't imagine what he's going through," Melissa Carmichael, a town resident, told the local newspaper.
A friend of the boy's sister, 10-year-old Alex Tardif, remembered Nathan as "being a pretty nice kid."
