Shots Fired At Georgia Elementary School; No Casualties

Shots were reportedly fired Tuesday at McNair Discovery Learning Academy in Decatur, Ga., around 1 p.m. local time, according to several local reports. There are currently no confirmed nor suspected causalities, and the suspected gunman surrendered to police officers peacefully.

While initial local reports conflicted over whether or not shots were fired in the school, DeKalb County School Board Chairman Melvin Johnson confirmed shots were fired to WSB-TV. Fox 5 Atlanta initially reported no shots were fired, but when the suspected gunman asked school officials to call WSB-TV, an editor was able to hear gunshots in the background, according to the station.

Students at the school, which hosts students from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade, were evacuated to a local Walmart, where parents were told to pick up their children.

The suspected gunman is a white male in his 20’s, who was wearing all black and was armed with an AK-47 assault rifle.

This school shooting is the most recent since the June 7 attack at Santa Monica College in Santa Monica, California. Six people, including the suspected gunman were shot and killed when a white male in his 20’s or 30’s shot five people with an assault rifle.
