Shotgun Accidentally Fired at Gun Club, Ten People Injured
A 12-gauge shotgun was accidentally fired into the floor of the St. Charles Sportmen's Club in Blackberry Township, Illinois on Tuesday evening.
A 69-year-old gun owner had just completed shooting at the gun club and thought he had placed a “snap cap” in the barrel, but in reality had accidentally put a live shell into the gun.
The unidentified man pointed the shotgun barrel at the floor, pulled the trigger and live shell fired a lead buckshot, which then bounced upward and struck bystanders and the shooter.
According to The Courier-News, seven people were treated at the scene for minor injuries, but three males, including a 14 year old, were transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
Kane County Sheriff’s deputies said the shooting appears to be accidental, and that no charges will be filed.
