Sheriff Joe Arpaio Plans to Send Armed Posse Volunteers into Schools

Sheriff Joe Arpaio, of Maricopa County in Arizona, recently said that he plans to send members of his 3,000 volunteer armed posse into schools that fall under his jurisdiction.

Sheriff Arpaio doesn’t know whether all schools will agree to having armed guards, but he claims that a similar program has been effective in malls since 1993, reports

Sheriff Arpaio said the malls, where his posse members have patroled, have had no violent re-occurrences since 1993.

Sheriff Arpaio told that he has the “authority to mobilize private citizens and fight crime in this county" and added: “We’re not talking about placing the posse in the schools right now but in the outlying, the perimeters of the school, to detect any criminal activity."
