A woman gave birth to her daughter in an office bathroom last week and put the baby in a plastic bag and took her out to the trash.
Shavaughn Robinson, of Richmond, Va., left the baby in the trashcan in the bathroom. She then tied up the bag and threw it into the dumpster.
Robinson worked as massage therapist in the building and said she was having stomach issues before she went to the bathroom.
Robinson, 27, was seen by a cleaning crew cleaning up blood in the bathroom.
A janitor then later found the baby in the trash. The baby died of asphyxiation.
Robinson is being charged with concealment of a dead body.
"I don't want people thinking I killed that baby for nothing," she told police after she was arrested. It is not known what she meant by that statement.
It is being classified as a homicide. Other charges are expected to be filed later on.
Robinson is being held without bond, as the judge considers her a "flight risk."
"Her only concern was cleaning up the mess," Attorney Janae Craddock said.
The woman's uncle told reporters that Robinson is a loving and supportive mother to a four-year-old boy. She works two jobs to support her son.
The uncle said he did not know she was pregnant.
Kent Swarts, co-owner of Massage Envy, where she worked, said she has been working there since December.
"We did not know that she was pregnant," Swarts said. "She was a very nice person. She did a very good job here. We're just really sorry to hear about this."
