Sex Offender Offers To Carry Groceries For Disabled Woman Into Home, Then Reportedly Assaults Her

A convicted sex offender in Madison, Tennessee, was arrested after reportedly offering to carry an elderly woman's groceries into her house, only to rape and nearly choke the woman to death.

Reginald Eugene Gregory, 50, offered to help the 60-year-old woman, who is wheelchair-bound and on dialysis, carry groceries from a bus into her home, WZTV reported. The woman agreed, and Gregory reportedly helped her carry the groceries down the street into the house.

Once the two arrived inside the doorway of the woman's apartment, the woman said Gregory "dumped her out of her wheelchair," and then started to choke her with both hands. Despite the woman's cries for Gregory to stop, he then allegedly carried her to her bedroom, where the sexual assault took place.

The woman called 911 at around 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 7, shortly after Gregory fled the scene. She told officials the act had left her with serious pain in her abdominal area.

Officers responding to the woman's call found Gregory in a parking lot and arrested him. The Tennessean reports that Gregory is a registered sex offender with convictions from 2003 and 2012.

In 2003, police say Gregory was arrested for rape and served a prison sentence of 10 years. Although it is currently not known how, he managed to avoid serving the whole sentence. In 2012, he was arrested for aggravated rape and sentenced to six years in prison, but WZTV reports he was out on parole when the alleged assault happened on Dec. 7.

Gregory is currently being held on a $250,000 bail.
