Selfies Of iPhone Thief Appear On Victim's iCloud

A woman who had her iPhone stolen from her while asleep in a cab later discovered selfies of the person who stole it on her iCloud.

According to reports, Nikki Sweetman, 23, had been drinking wine one night when she got into an unlicensed cab with her bag. When she woke up, Sweetman discovered that her bag was gone, and when she asked the driver where it was, he told her to get out.

A week after the bag went missing, Sweetman says she was shocked to discovers selfies of another woman on her iCloud, and in that moment, she realized it was the person who stole her bag.

“I was with friends when we saw loads of selfies of this woman coming through,” Sweetman said. “I thought, 'What the hell?’ At first we laughed and thought it was quite funny. She posted loads of photos of her earrings, which we thought must have been a Christmas present. But then I thought, 'She shouldn't get away with this.’ I'm quite angry that I'm now left with an iPhone 4, while she has my lovely iPhone 5c."

“I decided to share it on Facebook and have had hundreds of responses - including from Texas, USA,” Sweetman continued. “But then someone who knew the woman in the photos got in touch and told me who she was.”

Once Sweetman shared the photo and tracked the woman down, she saw some of the woman’s friends posting on her social media account encouraging her to flee the country.

“I saw friends on her Facebook had posted 'I hope you have your passport' after I shared her photo,” Sweetman said.

“I think she now knows I'm trying to track her down and she's taken those selfies off Facebook and changed the settings so you can no longer see her location,” added the 23-year-old.

Sweetman says she has since reported everything to the police and notes that she’s learned her lesson about getting into unlicensed taxis. A police spokesperson said they are investigating the incident, which took place on Dec. 19.
