A security guard in Red Rock, Ariz., claims he was only trying to scare his girlfriend when he shot her Monday night.
Ramiro Delcid, 20, was sitting in his company truck with his 19-year-old girlfriend, Dina Dicochea, just before 7 p.m. on Monday. He said he unloaded the weapon, aimed it at his girlfriend, and pulled the trigger.
Pinal County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a shooting at Red Rock Feeding Company, where Dicochea was pronounced dead.
“This case is a tragic reminder of how quickly a life can be taken by those who handle firearms irresponsibly,” Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu noted in a statement on Tuesday. “Ramiro took the life of his girlfriend because he thought it would be funny to scare her with a gun. His poor judgment and decision making took the life of this young woman with her entire life ahead.”
Delcid had recently started work as a security guard, but his boss told KPHO that he had no idea the 20-year-old was armed.
Delcid was taken to Pinal County Jail where he was charged with negligent homicide.
