A man in Scotland who repeatedly raped his girlfriend and at one point pulled her teeth out with pliers has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Earlier this year, Donald Jeffrey, 45, was convicted of eight charges against a woman he had been abusing between 2008 and 2014, according to STV News.
The abuse reportedly began shortly after the woman -- who is a mother -- started dating Jeffrey in 2008.
A court first heard the charges against Jeffrey in July, and the description of his relationship with the woman given during the hearing reads like a litany of crimes, a few of which in particular stand out for their cruelty.
In one instance, the woman was reportedly so scared of Jeffrey that when he demanded her to "get the pliers," she did it without hesitation despite knowing what he intended to do with them.
"I was hoping to god he would not do this," she said in court, according to STV News.
"But, when I gave him them, he did not need to ask me to open my mouth... I just stood there. I did not even want to think what would happen if I refused, I was not taking the chance. He then started - pliers in, pull... pliers in, pull. One tooth took an extreme amount of force because two of my teeth had been glued together during earlier dental work. I could hear my teeth falling onto the wooden floor."
Jeffrey then allegedly ordered the woman to go to the bathroom mirror and smile, while he was laughing.
In another incident, Jeffrey reportedly attacked her with a hammer and then forced her to enter a freezing cold bath where he held her head under water four times. He then made the woman sit half-naked in the tub and spat on her.
Jeffrey's other crimes against this woman include slashing her across the face and dropping dumbbells onto her, in addition to three charges of rape. The woman reportedly did not go to police until 2014, and before then she had attempted to hide the abuse by making up stories.
Jeffrey was also accused and charged for the bodily harm, assault and rape of a different woman between 1994 and 1998. In total, Jeffrey was convicted of 13 charges.
"It is obvious you are a very dangerous man and it is my duty to protect the public from you for as long as you are able to lift a finger, I propose therefore to make an order for lifelong restriction," the judge presiding in this case told Jeffrey at the hearing, according to STV News.
After Jeffrey serves his 10 years in prison, he will be eligible for parole. The judge, however, ordered a lifelong restriction on him, which means he will be supervised for the rest of his life. He will also be on the sex offenders registry indefinitely.
