A man faces a lengthy jail sentence after he admitted to beating another man to death when he caught him in bed with his married mother.
Sean Mahan, 21, launched into a 20-minute frenzied attack after discovering Stewart McKellar, 33, naked in bed with his mom Lavina, 50, the Daily Mirror reports.
The incident happened at the family home in Balloch, Scotland, while his father, John, was working offshore in August.
According to the Daily Record, Mahan then phoned a friend and said: “This guy was sleeping with my mum and I think I have killed him.”
He pleaded guilty at the High Court in Glasgow to culpable homicide, or manslaughter.
Culpable homicide “can be defined as killing someone but without direct intent either through recklessness or negligence,” according to The Telegraph.
On August 23, McKellar was out with friends at a nightclub in the Lomond Park Hotel, where he met Lavina Mahan, who was also out with a friend.
Prosecutor Douglas Fairley QC said the woman described being “chatted up” by McKellar before heading to the family home on Luss Road, where the two had a drink and started kissing around 2 a.m.
The court was told that Sean Mahan then came home and barged through the door.
"What are you doing?” he shouted. “How could you do this to my dad?”
He repeatedly punched McKellar for 20 minutes and then slapped his mom on the head, calling her “a slut.”
Paramedics arrived at the house and found “clear signs of a disturbance,” as well as a hysterical Lavina.
The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police eventually found Mahan at his friend's house hiding in a kitchen cupboard.
"I only punched him. What would you have done?” he said, when asked about McKellar. ”My dad's working offshore and I come home to find my mum in bed with someone else.”
Judge Lord Turnbull has placed Mahan in custody. His sentencing hearing will take place next month.
