Florida police are investigating what appears to be a murder-suicide in which a 35-year-old mother killed her one-year-old daughter before turning the gun on herself.
Responding to a 9:45 a.m. 911 called from her husband, Sarasota police found Sarah Harnish dead from a gunshot wound in her home on Sunday. Their daughter, 17-month-old Josephine Boice, was airlifted to All Chidren’s Hospital in St. Petersburg where she later died from a gunshot wound.
The girl’s father said he had gone for a ride on his scooter, and when he got back he heard gunfire.
“Investigators are still trying to piece it all together,” Sarasota Police spokesperson Genevieve Judge told the Herald-Tribune. “We’re treating it as a shooting investigation and a death investigation.”
Neighbors told WTVT that they weren’t aware of any problems in the household. Everything seemed normal when the family held a barbeque a few days ago.
“I can’t imagine what kind of problems there could have been,” said one neighbor, Dinie Hens. “I see clothes hanging on the line and I just don’t understand what could have happened.”
