A 9-year old North Carolina boy claims he was "fat shamed" by Santa Claus, after the jolly man made comments about his weight at a photo event on Dec. 3.
Anthony Mayse was told to “lay off the hamburgers and french fries” after sitting on the lap of a town Santa in Forest City, North Carolina, WLOS reports.
Anthony reportedly asked Santa for a drone and an iPod Touch, then felt “awful” and “disrespected” by Santa's remarks after dismounting from the actor’s lap.
“I went out and I started crying because I just felt so bad,” Anthony said. "It affected me so bad that I was crying until I went to bed that night."
Anthony’s mother, Ashley, has expressed outrage at the Santa’s jibes, claiming the impersonator “acted like he didn't want to be there to do the job” and “destroyed” her son.
"I was just mind-blown, I wished a million times that we never went," Ashley said. "I'm hoping he's fired, because I don't want any kid feeling like [Anthony] did Saturday."
The unnamed actor, who has portrayed Santa every holiday season for the past 10 years, has resigned from his position and delivered an apology to Anthony and his family, according to the Daily Mail.
Forest City has not yet found a replacement Santa, who was scheduled to appear for photo opportunities in town over the next two weekends.
Anthony reportedly tore up the picture he took with Santa following the incident, claiming he will never return to Forest City again.
“I want to say to [Santa], 'You don't want to disrespect a 9-year-old,’” Anthony said. “Even though what shape and size you are, it doesn't matter."
