A drug bust in Nebraska led to a number of other disturbing discoveries.
According to WGBA, police were called to the Omaha home of Kaylee Taylor and Joseph Hamilton, where they found more than 170 grams of methamphetamine. According to the police report, Omaha officers had already obtained a search warrant for Taylor and Hamilton's home.
The Omaha World-Herald reports that while in the couple's home, Omaha police also discovered a baby crib with a gate zip-tied to the top, as well as a makeshift bomb in front of the home. The methamphetamine was found in Taylor's bra.
The gate was attached to the top of the crib in order to keep Taylor's 3-year-old daughter caged. Taylor and Hamilton kept a Wi-Fi camera above the crib to watch.
Taylor's two daughters, ages 3 and 12, were both found in the home by police.
Taylor, 32, and Hamilton, 34, have both been charged with two counts of intentional child abuse, conspiracy to commit a felony, and possession of methamphetamine, as well as two other felonies.
Hamilton is currently being held in jail on $100,000 bail, while Taylor is being held on $115,000 bail. To be released, each must pay at least 10 percent of their bail.
"It's disturbing," Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine told KETV of the discovery.
Kleine continued: "Obviously there was drugs being trafficked out of there, methamphetamine was present in the residence, a substantial amount, cash, other indications that there was drug trafficking going on ... It was the Metro Area Drug Task Force that did a search warrant at their residence and found substantial amounts of methamphetamine and everything that would go along with them being in the business of dealing methamphetamine.”"
Neighbors spoke to KETV about the shocking discovery, with some revealing that they had let their own children stay the night at the home. Others revealed that they had noticed cars regularly coming in and out of the driveway at night.
Following Taylor and Hamilton's arrests, Taylor's daughters were made wards of the state. The day after Taylor and Hamilton's arrest, police took Taylor's children to Project Harmony, where they were placed in protective custody. Prior to that, the children were taken to be cared for by their grandfather, Gomer Taylor. Taylor confirmed to KETV the following day that the children were in foster care.
Hamilton and Taylor are set to appear in court for their preliminary hearings in May.
