A 78-year-old man was assaulted by two armed robbers at a gas station in San Bernardino, California, last Tuesday, and new surveillance video has emerged to depict the incident.
The video shows the robbers approaching the man, John Faust, as he stands next to his Toyota truck at the Shell station. Both men in the video are masked and armed with handguns, and one of them quickly strikes Faust in the face with his fist. While Faust is on the ground, the robbers empty his pockets and flee the scene on foot.
“I remember the guy clearly telling me, ‘Give me your wallet.’ And the next thing I know I was laying on the ground,” Faust said, according to ABC 7.
According to KTLA, Faust had stopped at the gas station to refill his truck on his way to a job around 4:30 a.m. He sustained serious injuries, including a broken nose, concussion and bleeding of the brain. He recovered after spending four days in the hospital.
San Bernardino Police Department Lt. Rich Lawhead claimed that the robbers have yet to be identified and may pose a threat to other individuals throughout the San Bernardino area.
“It’s the lowest of the low. They didn’t appear to be nervous in any way, shape or form. And they’re only going to get more and more brazen,” said Lawhead. “Eventually, somebody’s going to get killed.”
Lawhead claimed the police department released the video in order to warn the public about the attackers.
