Pop star Rihanna posted a heartbreaking message on social media mourning her 21-year-old cousin, who was shot dead in Barbados shortly after she celebrated Christmas with him.

Robyn Rihanna Fenty's cousin, Tavon Kaiseen Alleyne, was reportedly shot multiple times by an unidentified man while walking near his home in the St. Michael area of Barbados on Dec. 26, according to The Mercury News. Alleyne died from his injuries after he was rushed to a hospital.

"RIP cousin," the award-winning singer wrote in her Instagram post. "Can't believe it was just last night that I held you in my arms! Never thought the would be the last time I felt the warmth in your body!! Love you always man!"

"#Endgunviolence," Rihanna added in her post.

Barbados' gun violence, while lower than that of other countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, is still an issue for the country; 22 out of 28 homicides in Barbados in 2017 were reportedly gun-related.
