Mother Charged In Death Of Her Son Whose Body Police Found In Her Trunk

After learning a Virginia boy’s body may have been in a car trunk for 10 years, officials are now charging his mother.

Tonya Slaton, 44, was charged with second-degree murder, reports The Virginian-Pilot.

Slaton reportedly was involved in the death of her son Quincy Jamar Davis at least 10 years ago.

According to reports, Davis was about 14 or 15 when he died, and he would have been 25 now. He died some time between July 24, 2004 and July 24, 2005. He was never reported missing.

Slaton was arrested in June 2015 after a state trooper pulled her over for expired tags.

Once near the vehicle, he said he smelled rotting flesh. When he checked Slaton’s trunk, he found her son’s body, reports The Virginian-Pilot.

This is not the first time Slaton had gotten in trouble with law enforcement for child abuse.

In 1997, the mother was charged with hitting Quincy, then age 6. The child reportedly had cuts and bruises all over his back and chest.

At the time, Slaton was not sent to prison, under the mandate she show good behavior for six months. A former classmate said after that, the boy would sometimes come to school with a busted lip, saying it was just chapped.

Again in 2002 Slaton was charged with domestic assault, although it is unclear who the victim was.

Six years later, in 2008, Slaton was sentenced to four years in prison for shooting her boyfriend.

Reports indicate Slaton herself was a victim of abuse as a child and ran away from home when she was young.

“Everybody loved Quincy,” Quincy’s uncle, Martin, said.  “Even at a young age, he could walk in the room and light it up."

Friends of the boy also still miss him. Although they are adults now starting careers and getting married, they celebrated what would have been his 25th birthday in 2015.

“We were the last people who hung out with him,” Bailey Fett said. “We probably cared about him the most, honestly -- his friends.”
