Image placeholder title

In brief: Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced that to-date, more than 1,800 electric vehicle chargers have been installed thanks to Recovery Act money.

The word

The charging stations are part of an overall electric vehicle stimulus that's spent over $5 billion since 2009. The announcement was made by Secretary Chu at an event in Exposition Park in Los Angeles, attended by Coulomb Technologies founder and CTO Richard Lowenthal - Coulomb has received $15 million of the money and just installed its 500th station.

The Transportation Electrification Initiative, which received $400 million of Recovery Act money, has the goal of installing 22,000 charging stations nationally by December 2013.

And so ...

For those 22,000 charging points, the TEI's other goal is to put 13,000 electric vehicles on the road.
