Reality star Ashley McNeely has died at the age of 35.
McNeely, whose primary claim to fame was appearing on the reality show, "A Shot At Love With Tila Tequila" -- was found dead on June 8 in his hometown of Beckley, West Virginia, reports TMZ.
According to Lieutenant David Allard, police officers were dispatched to McNeely’s apartment after receiving a 911 call from a female acquaintance, reports People.
"His body has been transported to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy, which will determine the cause of death," said Allard. "Close to his body, authorities found drug paraphernalia, prescription medication and other believed to be illegal substances. ... There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and foul play is not suspected."
"A Shot At Love With Tila Tequila" was a bisexual-themed reality dating game show that aired on MTV in 2007. The show's namesake, Tila "Tequila" Nguyen, was born in Singapore to Vietnamese-French parents and raised in Houston, according to IMDb. Her nickname reportedly originates from a near-fatal drinking experience involving the popular Mexican liquor.
Shortly after graduating from high school, she was discovered by Playboy scouts in a mall, and did her first shoot for that magazine at age 19. She subsequently appeared on the covers of numerous other men's magazines. She made Maxim Magazine's "Hot 100" list, and was featured in Rolling Stone's "Hot Issue." Also a musician, Tequila has made numerous recordings.
Her book, "Hooking Up with Tila Tequila: A Guide to Love, Fame, Happiness, Success and Being the Life of the Party," was published in 2008. Chapter 3 is devoted to photos of herself, prefaced with the following short introduction, as quoted by Westword: "What? Are you expecting me to get all defensive about the fact that I got my start (and made bank) in a bikini? Nah, I'm comfortable with who I am and the fact that plenty of people seem to think I look hot in the buff."
The publisher's blurb on Amazon.com adds: "Tila's taboo-bending lack of inhibition has made her a trailblazer for the times, and there's no signs of slowing down this feisty four-foot-eleven wild child whose combination of sex appeal and accessibility has made her popularity unparalleled. 'Hooking Up with Tila Tequila' takes an exclusive and entertaining look beyond the virtual pin-up -- past the mischievous glint in her eye and sultry curve of her hip -- to the real-life Tila."
Her reality show gave way to a spinoff in 2008 called "That’s Amore," in which Ashley McNeely helped "Shot At Love" contestant Domenico Nesci search for love. McNeely appeared in six episodes of the series, TMZ notes.
