'Some People Look Like Animals': Raven-Symone Defends Univision Host Who Made Michelle Obama 'Plant Of The Apes' Joke (Video)

Actress Raven-Symone shocked her fellow hosts on The View Monday, March 16 when she defended Univision host Rodner Figueroa after he joked that a makeup artist who had transformed himself into Michelle Obama looked like he was a cast member from"Planet of the Apes."

Figueroa lost his job over the comment, despite apologizing to Obama and claiming his comment was directed at the makeup artist, and not the first lady. He has since been accused of racism, reports The Blaze.

"Was he saying it racist-like? Because he said he voted for her later, and I don't think he was saying it racist," Raven-Symone said.

Her co-hosts, particularly Rosie Perez, were beside themselves at her statement and didn't hold back.

"I'm sorry, that is racist!" Perez said after comparing Raven-Symone's comment to those made by people who say, "I'm not racist, but I have black friends."

Raven-Symone stood by her original statement and said, "Michelle, don't fire me from this right now, but some people look like animals. Is that rude? I look like a bird! So can I be mad if somebody calls me Toucan Sam?"

Raven-Symone took to Twitter after her appearance on The View to clarify her position.

In her first post, she wrote: "Some comments are rude, some are disrespectful, and some are racist. Try not to exchange one for the other."

In her second post, she wrote: "My opinion/comment arn't [sic] based off race, that doesn't mean i'm trying to be a different race all together. I love OUR history, family...."

In Raven-Symone's third and final post about her controversial appearance on the morning talk show, she wrote," We have Irish culture, African culture, Indian culture Many more running through the veins of AMERICA! Come on yung [sic] peeps"
