While the ISIS surge continues to shake the governmental infrastructure of the Middle East, collateral damage being felt by non-Islamic citizens in Northern and Western Iraq is also becoming a matter of chilling concern.
Last week a captured Yazidi woman was able to contact a friend embedded in the Peshmerga. According to Karam, a Kurdish activist and friend of the man who initially received the phone call, the woman pleaded for Western forces to please “bomb the brothel” where she is being imprisoned.
According to the account given by the Yazidi woman, all women captured by ISIS are raped brutally and repeatedly to an unfathomable extent.
“If you know where we are, please bomb us,” said the woman. “There is no life after this. I’m going to kill myself anyway. Others have killed themselves this morning. I’ve been raped 30 times and it’s not even lunchtime. I can’t go to the toilet. Please bomb us.”
ISIS considers it a part of Sharia Law to kidnap any non-Islamic women for the purpose of using them as a concubines or ‘sex slaves.'
According to the latest edition of the ISIS magazine, Dabiq, “Enslaving the families of the kuffār [non-believers] and taking their women as concubines is a firmly established aspect of the Sharia that if one were to deny or mock, he would be denying or mocking the verses of the Qur’an… and thereby apostatizing from Islam.”
The Yazidi woman’s description of what she goes through was reportedly so vile that her friend broke down in tears. Karam spoke with the BBC, saying, “He just burst out crying because they just felt so helpless.”
Karam is a member of the same Kurdish activist group who set up a public demonstration in London, recreating a ‘sex-slave auction,’ in which chained women were sold to the highest bidders. The demonstration was meant to enlighten the West on the true atrocities that are happening at the hands of ISIS.
According to the United Nations, more than 5,000 Yazidis have been killed by ISIS jihadists. Another 5-7,000 are held in makeshift detention centers where they are then sold into slavery or given to jihadists as concubines.
