Pulse Signal Detected By Ship Searching For Missing Malaysia Airlines Flight

A detected pulse signal may be from missing Malaysian Airlines flight 370.

A Chinese ship in the southern Indian Ocean waters detected the signal. China’s official news agency, Xinhua, stated in a report that it has not determined whether the signal was related to the missing jet, reports the NY Post.

A deployed black box detector by the ship Haixun 01, located the signal at 37.5Hz per second at around 25 degrees south latitude and 101 degrees east longitude.

The signal’s frequency is the same as those emitted by the flight recorders, reports BBC News.

The multinational investigation trying to locate missing Malaysian Airlines flight 370 is now in its fourth week. No confirmed debris has been located from the plane but it is believed to have crashed in the southern Indian Ocean.

“Where we’re at right now, four weeks since this plane disappeared, we’re much, much closer,” said aviation expert Geoffrey Thomas, editor-in-chief of “But frustratingly, we’re still miles away from finding it. We need to find some piece of debris on the water; we need to pick up the ping.”

Two of the ships in the search have underwater locator capabilities. They are currently searching an area of about 217,000 square kilometers (84,000 square miles) for a signal from the flight recorders.

Time is of the utmost importance in locating a signal from the flight recorders as the battery-powered signal fades after 30 days.
