President Barack Obama celebrates his 55th birthday today.
“55 years young and that smile still gets me every single day. Happy birthday, Barack. I love you,” First Lady Michelle Obama wrote on Twitter, along with a photo of herself stroking the president's chin.
Barack Obama also wrote a birthday editorial, in which he described himself as a feminist, according to First Post.
"You see the subtle and not-so-subtle social cues transmitted through culture. You feel the enormous pressure girls are under to look and behave and even think a certain way,” he wrote.
"We need to keep changing the attitude that raises our girls to be demure and our boys to be assertive, that criticizes our daughters for speaking out and our sons for shedding a tear."
And Organizing for Action, a 501c4 non-profit that advocates for the president's positions, asked followers to sign a birthday card for him, but that appears to be it for public festivities celebrating Obama's birthday.
Obama received a gift from the American people: a high level of popularity, according to The Washington Post. A Fox News poll shows Obama has a positive job approval rating from 52 percent of Americans, while a CNN poll puts him at 54 percent.
Obama is now as popular as former President Bill Clinton at this stage of his presidency in 2000.
While Obama has high approval ratings, they're not as high as the level of pessimism in the country. Although the CNN poll has 54 percent of Americans saying they believe Obama is doing a good job, 59 percent believe the country is heading in the wrong direction.
That might be because both major party candidates have very high disapproval ratings, and one of them will likely be the next president of the United States.
Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has a 53.5 percent unfavorable rating and only a 41.6 favorable rating, according to Huffington Post polling averages.
And Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is faring even worse, with a 57.5 percent unfavorable rating and a 36.9 percent favorable rating.
