A fast food worker in Houston who says she was fired for not reimbursing the Popeye’s restaurant where she worked for money stolen during an armed robbery is seeking $5.5 million in damages from her former employer.
Marissa Holcomb was the manager at a local Popeye’s, and was in the middle of her shift when a man reportedly held her at gunpoint and demanded that she hand over cash from the register. According to Holcomb, she was subsequently fired for not reimbursing $400 that was stolen in the robbery.
In response to the termination, Holcomb is seeking $5.5 million in damages for emotional distress. Her attorney, Marc Bozeman, sent a letter to Z&H Foods, the franchise that owns the Popeye’s branch. Bozeman stated in his letter that the company has 30 days to respond to the letter or he would file a lawsuit.
“Even though you have offered to give the job back to her only to save face after experiencing bad publicity, the damage from your egregious conduct has been done,” Bozeman’s letter read.
Holcomb will reportedly begin working at a different Popeye’s branch this week.
