Popular Company Announces Enormous Recall Over Serious Safety Concerns

Popular candle company Yankee Candle announced a major recall of a number of its most popular candles for a shocking reason.

According to the company's announcement, which was made in a joint statement with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, six of its candles were found to pose a "laceration hazard" when lit because the glass jar housing the candle is prone to cracking.

"At Yankee Candle we pride ourselves on having the highest standards of quality. Out of an abundance of caution and a firm commitment to safety, we have decided to request the immediate return of all Luminous Collection candles," the announcement read, AWM reported.

The recall reportedly pertains to Yankee Candle's Sea Salt & Coral, Blackberry & Sage, Apple Blossom & Melon, Sugarcane & Honey, Pine & Sandalwood and Cinnamon & Cedar products. These candles are part of the Luminous Collection, a new line from the popular company. The company was made aware of the issue after customer feedback alerted them to a potential laceration hazard.

"If you or someone in your household has purchased a Luminous Collection candle, you are encouraged to return it to your nearest Yankee Candle company-owned retail location to receive a full refund plus one free candle of your choice for your inconvenience," the company's statement read.

Many readers expressed their disappointment at the recall once the story began to circulate.

"Oh man these are my favorite candles," one Shared reader lamented on the site's Facebook page.

The news came following several high-profile recalls in 2016, including one from Kellogg in which they recalled 10,000 cases of Nutri-Grain Whole Wheat Waffles out of concerns regarding listeria. Other companies, like Blue Bell Ice Cream, also recalled products due to listeria.

Some companies recalled products due to other health and safety concerns. Heinz recently recalled their Lunchables Ham and Cheese Stackers due to allergens that were undeclared on the packaging.

Do you think Yankee Candle was right to recall their products?
