Poll: Sanders, Clinton Both Beat Trump In Election Match-Up

As campaigns nervously await the results of Super Tuesday, Donald Trump is a likely victor among Republicans. However, this could spell out another four years of Democrats in the White House.

According to CNN/ORC poll results released March 1, both Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton would beat Trump in the general election.

In hypothetical match-ups, Sanders leads Trump 55 to 43 percent and Clinton leads the Republican front-runner 52 to 44.

If Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida or Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas is the Republican nominee, Sanders still leads but Clinton falls behind.

Although the poll suggests Clinton could beat Trump, Sanders is less certain. In February, the Vermont senator's campaign manager warned that Clinton could cost Democrats the White House.

“The truth is, it’s going to take more than establishment politics and establishment thinking to beat Donald Trump,” Jeff Weaver wrote in a fundraising email, according to The Washington Times.

“But together, we are building something unprecedented,” Weaver continued. “That is why we’re doing so well in the polls, and why we’ve seen grass-roots enthusiasm unmatched by any candidate on either side of this primary. Only Trump comes close. And that is why what we are building is what will be required to defeat him.”

Clinton is still gearing up for a fight against Trump and has started attacking him on the campaign trail.

“The mean-spiritedness, the hateful rhetoric, the insults — that’s not who we are,” Clinton said on Feb. 29, according to The Washington Post. “It really undermines our fabric as a nation.”

Despite the galvanization against him, Trump is pushing back on both Democratic contenders.

“Honestly, she should not be allowed to run,” Trump said of Clinton ahead of Super Tuesday. “Bernie Sanders is over; he took a big beating, took a big beating.”
