Police Searching For 2-Year-Old Girl Make Troubling Discovery In Ceiling

An Australian man said he is heartbroken after police discovered the body of his 2-year-old daughter on a roof, just two hours after she was reported missing.

Peta-Ann Francis reported her 2-year-old daughter, Nikki Francis-Coslovich, missing Tuesday afternoon in Mildura. Officers discovered fingerprints at the entrance of a manhole in the ceiling, which led them to a roof space where they found Nikki’s lifeless body, 9 News reported.

According to reports, an autopsy revealed important details in the investigation of the girl’s death, but police have not released those details. The Homicide Squad is currently investigating, and police are yet to reveal what was discovered.

Nikki was the youngest of four girls. They are all under the age of 8 and live with their mother and her partner, John Torney. Nikki’s father, Nicholas Coslovich, said he was heartbroken by the news.

“I got told by the police that (Nikki) was missing and my heart broke, I sort of knew that I wasn't getting my baby back,” he told 9 News. “When I got the news that she'd passed, again it took probably a minute or two to sink in and then I just broke and since then it's just been coming in ebbs and flows.

“I'll go numb and then I'll be overwhelmed.”

Coslovich went on to express guilt over not being able to protect his daughter.

“I can't believe I let it happen, I feel guilty that I didn't do enough, I could've done more and my little girl's not here now and I'm sure there's something I could have done,” he added. “Even though I know that I did everything within the system, I feel I could have done more, I didn't save her and that's the worst feeling in the world.”
