Police: Man Killed, Manually Disemboweled His Girlfriend After She Called Out Her Ex-Husband's Name During Sex

Around 4 a.m. on Sept. 20, police in Sunrise, Florida, were met with a gruesome scene when they reportedly discovered Maria Nemeth’s naked and bloodied body on the floor of the bathroom in the apartment she shared with her boyfriend, Fidel Lopez.

Lopez, 24, was found kneeling over 31-year-old Nemeth’s body, The Sun-Sentinel reports. Nemeth was pronounced dead at 4:02 a.m.

Lopez had called 911 just 20 minutes prior and told operators his girlfriend was having trouble breathing and was going to die, according to an arrest report cited by The Sun-Sentinel.  He was later accused of disemboweling and killing her after she yelled out her ex-husband’s name during tequila-fueled sex.

The couple had just moved into the apartment together a week ago, but it was virtually destroyed by the time authorities arrived to investigate, police said. The rear sliding glass door was shattered, the walls had been punched, and a door was ripped off its hinges.

Lopez told investigators he became a “monster” after Nemeth said her ex-husband’s name during sex. After he knocked her unconscious, Lopez told investigators he started breaking things around the apartment. He then began inserting things into Nemeth, including a beer bottle, a hair straightening iron and both of his fists. At one point, Lopez reportedly inserted his arm up to his elbow and pulled out part of her intestines.

He attempted to wake her up, but she wouldn’t rouse. Lopez told investigators he then washed off his hands, smoked a cigarette and started to panic. He attempted to clean up the apartment, but upon discovering Nemeth wasn’t breathing, he called 911.

Lopez has been charged with first-degree murder, Q13 Fox reported.
