Police Investigating After Two Teens Are Found Dead On The Same Interstate In One Week (Video)

A New Orleans mother has a message for teenagers after her 16-year-old daughter was found dead along Interstate 10 last week.

“Young people don’t want to listen to your parents,” Kenisha Martin-Nelson said during a vigil (video below) honoring her daughter’s life. “This is what happens when you don’t listen.”

Kaylan Ward, 16, was last seen wearing a black shirt, black bike shorts and orange slippers on Earhart Boulevard near Magnolia Street. Her body was found on June 4 on the right shoulder emergency lane of the interstate, Fox 6 Now reported.

According to detectives, Ward was trying to catch a ride to North Miro Street. New Orleans Police are still investigating the exact cause of death. The preliminary cause of death appears to be multiple blunt force trauma, according to WVUE.

Several family members and friends gathered for a vigil on Tuesday to honor Ward’s life. Martin-Nelson said her daughter ran away from home after a fight about taking the car without permission on May 30. She said she didn’t hear from Ward for days.

“My baby had a demon that has been riding her for about five or six years,” Martin-Nelson said. “This is what happens when you don’t listen … I told my child two weeks ago God is going to put his hands on you and he’s going to sit you down.”

The grieving mother said her daughter was her first love and she believes the person responsible for her death will be found.

“Was she perfect?” Martin-Nelson asked. “No. I had a rebellious child, but I loved her through it all. She did not deserve to die like this.”
