Police Find Charcoal-Eating Toddler Living In Meth Lab

On the afternoon of August 2, police in Akron, Ohio, received a report about a 1-year-old boy eating charcoal inside the apartment of Nicolas Anton and his girlfriend, Heather Sandau, the boy’s mother. When officers went to investigate the claim, they found a meth lab, The Plain Dealer reported.

Sandau and Anton, both 25, have both been charged with two first-degree felony counts of illegally possessing chemicals used for methamphetamine, a second-degree count of child endangerment and drug possession. Investigators said they found a small amount of methamphetamine inside the apartment, in addition to syringes and other paraphernalia intended for drug use.

The infant boy has been placed in the custody of Summit Country Children Services, Cleveland Scene reported.

Anton already has a criminal record. In 2014, he was sentenced to 10 months in jail for aggravated possession of methamphetamine and check forgery, although he had previously served time for attacking an acquaintance and theft.

The couple is expected in court on August 3.
