When 98-year-old Josephine Pallone died, her daughter Janet Delatorre assured everyone that Pallone would be buried in Chicago next to her deceased husband.
But four years after her death, that doesn’t seem to be the case. What Dellatore did with the body instead is unsettling, to put it mildly.
Police found Pallone’s mummified body inside Delatorre's home this week. It was lying in the same bed that Pallone died in years ago. The body was found amongst piles of trash and clothes stacked all over the house of Delatorre, who admits she has hoarding tendencies.
When asked by police why she’s kept the body all these years, Dellatore said she “panicked.”
"Janet stated she 'panicked' and believed police would think Janet killed her based on the condition of the house," a police report said. "Janet assumed the police would think Janet neglected her and that is why she died."
The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office has not publicly confirmed the body as Pallone’s, but is expected to do so soon.
Maricopa Police Department Sgt. Jesse Sanger says it doesn’t look like Delatorre will face criminal charges for keeping the body in her house. He told AZ Central that there are no signs of fraud or any other criminal activity.
