Brittany Ann Sapp was being booked at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center Central Booking Unit in Maryland when she was asked to go through the body scanner. The 23-year-old’s scan revealed a packet of heroin inside her vagina.
WUSA 9 reported that Sapp was pulled over Saturday for a traffic violation on the I-70. Her car was inspected by a K-9 unit that detected heroin in her car and she was arrested.
Sheriff Chuck Jenkins told WBALTV, “This find of heroin on the prisoner demonstrates the importance of this technology in the detention center.
“Very obviously, if the heroin had not been discovered by normal search procedures, the inmate would have been at immediate risk, along with the fact that the heroin could have entered the facility, jeopardizing the safety and security of the facility and other inmates,” he continued. “In the end, it would have created a situation in which the sheriff’s office would have been liable for any bad outcome.
“In my opinion, the body scanner has more than paid for itself with this first discovery of heroin on this inmate,” Jenkins concluded.
The scanner revealed a foreign object in her vagina. Officers reported that they found a packet with 1.7 grams of heroin.
She was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of contraband in a place of confinement.
According to the Huffington Post, Sapp was released later that day on $25,000 bail.
