A 14-year-old girl from Dallas, Texas, was reportedly beaten by four family members who were attempting to induce an abortion after finding out she had been impregnanted by another family member.
The unidentified teen was eight months pregnant when she was allegedly brutally beaten by Cedric Jones, 27, Sharon Jones, 45, Cecila McDonald, 25, and Lonnell McDonald, 27, who is pictured above in the police mug shot, The Dallas Morning News reports. The attack reportedly took place in 2013 and lasted a few hours, after which, police say the teen delivered the stillborn baby and her family members burned the baby on a charcoal grill at their home in an effort to cover up the crime.
The young girl, who is now 16 years old, didn't say anything to anyone about the incident until another woman who had witnessed the attack took her to police on May 22. Detectives are looking into why the woman waited two years before bringing the girl to police, Dallas News reports.
The girl told police she was a virgin when she was sexually assaulted by a family member in August 2012 and became pregnant. After her relatives discovered she was pregnant, police say they "became very nervous and were concerned about ... [Child Protective Services] removing children from the residence," according to an affadavit.
Prior to the beating, Sharon Jones allegedly gave the child "multiple doses of birth control pills, Plan B [emergency contraception] pills and cinnamon tablets ... to abort the baby," police said.
When those methods failed to induce an abortion, the suspects reportedly spent six hours "repeatedly bouncing up and down" on the teen's abdomen and kicking and punching the young girl in her stomach. When she began screaming and crying, she was allegedly told to "shut up" and cry into a pillow.
The baby was stillborn about two hours after the beatings stopped. After burning the baby's corpse in a charcoal grill, Sharon Jones allegedly paid Cedric $25 to "take care of the rest of it." He allegedly put the baby's remains in a green plastic bag with a red drawstring, placed it in the trunk of his car, and disposed of it in an unknown location, reports WFAA.
Each of the suspects is being held in the Dallas County jail, with bail set at $150,000 each. Dallas police reportedly made an arrest in connection with the 2012 sexual assault as well. The 16-year-old is in custody of Child Protective Services.
