North Carolina police have arrested a woman for animal cruelty after she posted pictures of duct taping her dog's muzzle shut.
Katharine Lemansky posted picture (shown above) online of her chocolate lab, named Brown, with its mouth taped shut on Nov. 27, the NY Daily News notes.
“This is what happens when you dont shut up!!!” Lemansky reportedly wrote next to the picture.
The image sparked outrage on social media, with hundreds of people reporting the picture to police in South Daytona, Florida, which was was originally thought to be where Lemansky lived.
It was later discovered that she resided in Cary, North Carolina, under a different identity.
Authorities in Cary cooperated with Florida law enforcement to locate Lemansky.
"Taping the dog’s muzzle shut was a terrible decision on Ms. Lemansky’s part, and charging her with animal cruelty under North Carolina law was the right thing to do,” Cary Police Capt. Randall Rhyne said on Nov. 30, according to the NY Daily News.
Police said that when the arrived at Lemansky's residence, the chocolate lab mix appeared to be unharmed as well as her other dogs. They were not removed from her care.
"The dogs are current on their shots, spayed and microchipped," Rhyne said. "They are clean and well-nourished and appear to be comfortable in their surroundings."
Lemanksy faces 150 days in jail and a fine.
