A playboy model has been roundly criticized after sharing a picture of a naked woman at her gym in an online post.
Dani Mathers, 29, who was named Playmate of the Year for 2015, has been fired from her job on a local radio show in Los Angeles as a result, according to TMZ.
Her long-term position on the Heidi and Frank show on KLOS had come to an end, a station spokesperson said July 15.
In addition, a spokesperson for LA Fitness, which owns the gym where the incident occurred, said Mathers “is not permitted back at any club, ever.”
The controversy began when Mathers took a picture of the unsuspecting naked woman in the sauna and captioned it, “If I can’t unsee this then you can’t either.”
Her remark was widely interpreted as body shaming the woman in the picture.
“I haven’t tweeted in over a year probably. But @ danimathers made me SO disturbed to the core, I had to say something. Should be prosecuted,” wrote one Twitter user, according to the Huffington Post.
“Shame on you. Now we know who you really are. Can't unsee that either,” another responded.
“Seriously? You love empowering women? Does this look like empowerment? GIRL. Just stop,” wrote a third.
Even more serious consequences could follow.
“Her behavior is appalling and puts every member’s privacy at risk. We have handled this internally and also notified the police,” an LA Fitness spokesperson added.
Mathers subsequently sent an email to her fellow Playboy models apologizing for the incident, TMZ reports. In it, she said there was no excuse for her actions and that she regretted “the negativity and hate that this has brought forward.”
