Cargo Plane Grounded After Staff Notices Blood Dripping On Runway, Finds Dead Body

A U.S. cargo plane was grounded in Zimbabwe on Feb. 14 after staff noticed blood dripping on the runway and discovered a dead body.

The South African government chartered the Western Global Airlines flight. The flight was heading from Munich, Germany, to Durban, South Africa, reportedly carrying suitcases full of cash. The flight stopped for fuel in Harare, Zimbabwe.

During the stop in Zimbabwe, ground staff were inspecting the Boeing MD-11 when they spotted blood dripping onto the runway. The crew initially said this was because the plane hit a bird, but they soon discovered the truth. They found a “suspended” dead body inside the plane, reports The Herald, a Zimbabwean newspaper.

A spokesman for Western Global Airlines told the Daily Mail the body is “presumed to be a stowaway who may have entered the airplane during a previous stop.”

The incident is currently under investigation.
