Pizza Shop In Russia Closes After Customer Films Rats Eating Food (Video)

A pizza shop remains closed until further notice after a disgusted customer filmed three huge rats running around and eating the food on display.

Evgeny Ivanov, 26, saw the rodents at a fast-food restaurant at a bus station in Nizhny Novogorad.

"I couldn't believe it,” he said, according to the New York Daily News. “The three rats were enormous and were blatantly gnawing away at the pizzas-I don't know where the pizza seller was.”

Ivanov added: “I got the phone out as I wanted to prove what was happening, there is a real problem with rats around here and seeing this is just unbelievable.”

"We are aware of the situation and are taking measures to remove the rats permanently and make sure they don't come back,” a spokesman for the pizza joint said, according to Metro. “Why the sales assistant didn't alert us to the problem we have no idea but we will be questioning her.”

Viral hemorrhagic fever (VHF), which is commonly spread by rodents, broke out in the region this year, the Daily Mirror reports.

The syndrome, which attacks organs in the body, can cause internal bleeding and can be life threatening.

"We have ordered the pizza outlet to be closed and the food items to be destroyed,” a police spokesman told the Mirror. "This is a grave danger to the public and we will be checking other outlets to ensure nothing similar is happening or is allowed to happen in the future."
