Pit Bull Stabbed At Georgia PetSmart In Front Of Children

A pit bull that was up for adoption at a Georgia PetSmart store was euthanized after she was stabbed by a dog owner on Sunday.

The dog Clara allegedly bit a West Highland White Terrier (Westie) dog on the neck at the event. The Westie’s owner, Craig Emory, then allegedly pulled out a pocketknife and stabbed Clara several times, witnesses told WXIA-TV.

Witness Mike Wohler said the dogs didn’t appear to be fighting.

"It didn't look like the dogs were even fighting, but (Emory) was pummeling the dog saying 'effing pit bull, how are you still around' and 'effing pit bull this and that,' then I realized he wasn't punching the dog. He was stabbing it," Wohler told the station.

Wohler’s fiancée Teresa Reeves claimed Emory was cursing at the dog while he stabbed it. She believed charges should be brought against him.

"You can't just walk into a floor and stab a dog in front of families and children," Reeves said. "The people who work in that store could have easily gotten those dogs apart from each other."

The Newnan-Coweta Humane Society made the “very difficult decision to have Clara euthanized” on Monday.

“Her injuries were more extensive than the vet originally thought. We did not want her to suffer anymore and ultimately die in the presence of strangers,” NCHS wrote on its Facebook page.

NCHS said the Westie suffered minor injuries and is expected to recover.

Newnan police are investigating the incident.
